Return to Hogwarts will bring you back to the moment the magic began 20 years ago

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts revisits the advent of one of the most enduring modern movie franchises

by Justin Choo

The biggest shock of this reunion is that the first film in the franchise premiered 20 years ago.

Let that sink in for a bit. OK, now it’s time to get over the sobering reality of how time works and get ready to travel back in time in your head.

Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson have joined filmmaker Chris Columbus and fellow cast members across all eight Harry Potter films to commemorate the monumental Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in an upcoming special.

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts provides a retrospective take on behind-the-scenes moments through interviews and conversations with the cast members. Over eight films, the franchise has accumulated an impressive ensemble of stars, many of which will feature in Return to Hogwarts. This includes Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch, and Ian Hart, among others.

The highly-anticipated retrospective streams first on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2022, on HBO GO , but HBO GO will be rolling out the carpet for a year-end wave of throwbacks leading up to the grand event.

You can kickstart the nostalgia by checking out the 20th-anniversary content on WizardingWorld.com , and follow that up with Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses, a four-part quiz competition that starts streamingly weekly this November 29th on HBO GO .

Hosted by Dame Helen Mirren, the bracket-style quiz competition features fans competing to take home the Tournament of Houses championship trophy through their knowledge of the lore. The series will also be graced with cameos from film alumni Tom Felton, Simon Fisher-Becker, Shirley Henderson and Luke Youngblood, along with superfans Pete Davidson and Jay Leno.

And of course, there is no better way to stoke the fires than to rewatch the series all over again. HBO GO will stream all eight movies weekly on the Cartoon Network in the lead up to the event. The first four instalments in the series will air on Saturdays at 8 pm in November and December while the final four will air on the Cartoon Network in early 2022.
