What happens after the Euros end? For one, there’s the second season of Ted Lasso for your football-related fix. For those who missed the memo, Ted Lasso is a trope-aplenty-wild-ride into the barmy world of football management soaked in a generous dose of optimism.
Ted Lasso (Jason Sudekis) is an American college-level football coach who gets plucked from obscurity to manage AFC Richmond, a fictional English club. And that’s American football, by the way, and has zero experience. He was chosen by owner Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) because she was plotting the club’s failure to spite ex-husband and former owner of Richmond, Rupert Mannion (Anthony Head).
With nothing but an optimistic outlook, dogged determination and biscuits, he tries to move the club upwards in his own inimitable way. He does have Jose Mourinho’s ear , so it can’t be that bad, I would think.
The second season picks up where the first left off, with Richmond relegated and once-star player Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster) now with high-flying Manchester City. Of course, football is merely the conduit for what is essentially a series about how positivity can change lives.
The 12-episode second season will return on Friday, July 23, 2021, on Apple TV+, premiering with two episodes, followed by weekly episodes every Friday.
