The HUAWEI MateView GT is an ultrawide gaming display that feels more in line with a lifestyle device.
The 34″ display is also Huawei’s first curved monitor, and it has a gentle 1,500 diameter curve and a 21:9 aspect ratio. The specs all point towards a display that worth both for gaming and a bit of entertainment: a 165Hz refresh rate, brightness of 350 nits and contrast ratio of 4000:1, with DCI-P3 (90 per cent) and HDR10 support. It’s nowhere as close to the MateView in terms of colour accuracy, but it does come professionally calibrated with a ΔE <2 (Delta E <2). It has also passed the TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light certification and supports DC dimming, which effectively reduces blue light and flicker, which can be harmful to the eyes.
To help boost the display’s dynamic range, the MateView features a Dark Field Control tweak that makes adjustments during low-light and overexposed scenes so it’s easier to spot opponents. Huawei also touts Crosshairs feature designed for FPS games.; when the in-game scope is turned off, the MateView GT provides a scope for players that helps them to easily aim and shoot.
While it doesn’t have a touch screen control, it does have a five-way joystick integrated into the bottom bezel, and it’s easily accessible. The stereo speakers, too, have been integrated, and they sit at the bottom with the stand. An RGB touch panel lets you adjust the volume easily and offers a customisable lighting effect as well.
The MateView GT also has a decent range of ports: a 3.5mm audio jack for headphone and microphone, two HDMI 2.0 display ports, a DisplayPort 1.4 port (up to 8K 60fps), a USB Type C for charging, and a full-featured Type-C port.
Local prices aren’t finalised yet, but if you want a ballpark figure, prices in Europe start at €549.
