Despite the many criticisms levelled at the OnePlus 8T about its diminishing value proposition (compared to its previous phones), OnePlus’ latest offering is still a pretty decent phone – read about what we thought about it here – and the Cyberpunk 2077 version looks the business.
The vanilla 8T has a pretty safe design, and no one is going to be offended by it. However, the Cyberpunk version is bound to turn heads. Whether or not this sort of thing is up your alley is another matter, but it is more than just a colour swap. Aside from the Neo-punk looks, the Cyberpunk version sports a remodelled camera shroud that stretches across the width of the phone. As a result, the phone is slightly heavier (194g vs 188g), and the overall ensemble – well, it looks cool in our book. So far, it already looks like it’s worth the upcharge over the vanilla version.
Wait, what’s that you say? The Cyberpunk edition is cheaper than the regular OnePlus 8T? Perhaps there must be a mistake somehow? This phone has the same Snapdragon 865 processor, 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It’s bundled with the 65W Warp Charge adapter and runs HydrogenOS based on Android 11. Yet, it’s priced at ¥3,999 (roughly $816) when the regular OnePlus equivalent costs $1,099. There must be a catch somewhere.
Ah, right. It’s a China exclusive. Which means you’re pretty much on your own in finding one online, importing it, and flashing the firmware – and that’s assuming that the latter can be done successfully without too much compromise, of course. I suppose it’s not totally out of the question if you like the cut of this jig, but this is strictly for the fans of Cyberpunk 2077 or those who dig its looks, because of the (potentially) extra work required.
