The LG StanbyME “lifestyle screen” is a home entertainment device designed around modern content viewing habits. Kudos to the marketing team if the LG StanbyME was created on basis of the tongue-in-cheek name.
And it certainly looks the part: the rear cover is clad in a pure beige textural fabric, which goes well with modern decor while the FHD IPS touchscreen display measures 27 inches and is self-standing. The modular stand offers up to 20cm height adjustment, and the display can rotate up to 180-degrees in landscape or portrait mode, be swivelled up to 130-degrees and tilted up to 50-degrees. The base of the stand conceals five wheels, which allows you to easily move the display to wherever you like. And when not in use, you can use it as a clock or digital picture frame if you so choose.
Designed expressly for entertainment, StanbyME supports HDR10 Pro and AI Sound to liven up the experience, and you can control it via a remote, touch or gestures. The display is wireless and has a built-in battery rated to last up to three hours – just about enough for a long movie.
StanbyME operates on LG’s webOS smart TV platform with a custom interface that allows you to tailor the device to taste. Built-in services include Amazon Prime, Facebook Watch, Netflix, YouTube and Highbrow – an ad-free video-on-demand education platform for children.
Mobile Screen Mirroring lets you pair with Android and iOS phones via NFC to mirror your mobile display. iPhone users also have the option to connect via AirPlay 2 or HomeKit. And of course, there’s always a wired USB and HDMI for everything else.
In essence, StanbyME is a TV-tablet hybrid mounted on a mobile stand. It’s not exactly a must-have for the home, but if you find yourself moving a tablet around the house often to keep the kids entertained, you might want to think if this might be something that makes things easier for you.
Priced at $1,799, the LG StanbyME is available at official LG KrisShop , LG Lazada , LG Shopee , and at all authorised retailers: Audio House, Best Denki, Courts, Gain City, Harvey Norman, Mega Discount Store, Mustafa and Parisilk.
